I laughed out loud so many times, starting at about page two. Jack's character and place descriptions are exquisite. One of my favorites was his explanation of their first landlady's husband: "The old boy was a lanky stick insect with a small-bowled belly like a large pea wedged halfway down a straw." What a vivid picture that paints! His skill is definitely something new writers should be studying. He comes up with some amazingly fresh comparisons that you can actually taste and feel. More...
