I'm a wee bit shell-shocked. Why? Because  I've received a Rainbow Book Award in not just one but two categories.

BEST LGBT BIOGRAPHIES & MEMOIRS

BEST GAY DEBUT NOVEL/BOOK

And if this wasn't enough, the awards come with a couple of stunning reviews.

"A really excellent book. Funny and insightful and poignant all at once. It's a memoir that reads like a novel, with a lively and entertaining cast of supporting characters and a lot to say about a culture not many Westerners know much about." – Kate Mc.

"The book is written in a conversational style that made me think of sitting down with a close friend and listening to a lot of wacky and (occasionally) bittersweet stories. I was so caught up with the narrative that I was surprised by the time I got to the end. The author wrote a memoir that touched on the human experience in a way that is honest and thought-provoking." – Luce

iWriteReadRate have shortlisted  Perking the Pansies for their book of the month competition. If you can be bothered, please vote. You’ll have to registered, though which is a bit of a drag. Who knows? You might like this fancy new book site and stick around.

Fabulous news! Perking the Pansies, Jack and Liam move to Turkey has made the long list of 10 for the prestigious Polari First Book Prize. The short list of 5 will be announced in September and the winner in November. Holding my breath would be silly, though I am keeping it all crossed.

Find out what's on the list on the Time Out Blog and Out in the City.
